How do I set up an initial appointment?
So you’ve read my Psychology Today or Good Therapy Profile, or you’ve found me on Google. You’ve reviewed my website and researched the approaches I use. You realize, “Robyn can really help me love the reflection staring back at me and help me live the life I deserve!”
But what’s next? The next step is to call me (321) 333-4158 or contact me by email robynsmcleish@ttlgcs.com.
From here you will be asked about your symptoms, how long you have been struggling with them, how you have coped with them in the past, and what your goals are for therapy. From this free consultation call, you will gain a good idea of my approaches and therapy style.
What is your cancellation policy?
I will create a client portal for ALL clients through our Office Management Platform, Honey Book. This allows me not only to send secured documents and provide online counseling, but also send email details with invoices attached.
I require that all payments be paid online through the Honey Book portal 24 hours before your scheduled session. This will confirm your appointment and prevent that awkward “money discussion” during our session.
Failure to pay at least 24 hours in advance will result in cancellation of your session.
If you pay 24 hours prior to your session and you cancel the day before it’s scheduled, you will IMMEDIATELY receive a 100% refund within an hour of cancellation.
If I cancel, whether the day before or day of, you will receive a 100% refund of your payment.
However, if you cancel the day of or become a no-call-no-show, you will be refunded 50% of your payment as the remaining 50% will be retained as a “last minute cancellation” fee. This is STRICTLY enforced, as a therapist’s time is very VALUABLE and our time is our sales product. We cannot return time like an unused gallon of milk. Please plan and cancel accordingly.
Do you provide telehealth or online counseling?
Yes, I do provide online counseling for clients outside the country as well as within the state of Florida.
I utilize Google Meet through Honey Book Platform- for my online counseling. Google Meet is a secured portal that allows me to provide video sessions in a secured, encrypted manner. Session cost remains the same for individual, and couple’s counseling, and each video session is 60 minutes in length.
Online counseling is also available for any in-person client who is unable to attend an in-person session.
To set up an initial appointment for online counseling, please contact me either by phone or email.
What age ranges do you work with?
I work with ages 17 and above.
Do you work with Women, Men, Children, or Couples?
I work with women, and men starting at 17 years of age. I also see Couples, who are married or dating, for relationship counseling (Couple Counseling).
For Divorce Mediation, I work with legally married couples who does not want to go through the stress and cost of litigation, but who are seeking a cost-effective, calm, mentally-sound, amicable and uncontested end to their marriage.
What modalities do you use in your client’s work?
The modalities that will be used in your session can vary between Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy – just to name a few.
For Couple’s work, the modalities and techniques I use varies but typically falls with Gottman’s Method, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
In addition, I continuously receive trainings on new approaches, so don’t be surprised if I introduce a new approach that may best suit your needs and help you better reach your treatment goals.
What is your professional training and experience?
I graduated from Columbia University with my Master’s in Social Work (MSW). In addition to my professional license, I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, making me certified and trained in working with clients struggling with trauma.
Because trauma has anxiety, depressive, and dissociative symptoms, the approaches I use work well with these symptoms. Individuals who may have been previously diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, experiences Borderline traits, or who lived their childhood in a hostile, and dysfunctional setting may benefit from treatment specialized in dissociation. If this is your experience, we would work on the dissociation prior to any other treatment modality (such as EMDR), in order to reduce treatment abreaction.
I am trained in EMDR and receive on-going trainings in this modality. Other professional trainings include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method Approaches, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I have also received training in Dissociative Disorders, Complex trauma, and mindfulness approaches.
For Divorce Mediation, I am trained by a national training organization that specializes in training mental health professionals to become divorce mediators. This organization is Conflict Resolution Training, Inc. From this training, I gained unique skills and knowledge that will help you reach an uncontested divorce, with ease.
Through The Looking Glass Counseling Services, LLC partners with Conflict Resolution Training, Inc to train other mental health professionals in becoming divorce mediators.
What else do I need to know to make the most out of working with you?
The most important thing you need to know when working with me is this: Only you can make the necessary change in your life to live the life you deserve to live.
The best analogy I can give you is from the story, Dante’s Inferno. In Dante’s Inferno, Dante travels through Hell to rescue the soul of his beloved, Beatrice. While there, Dante receives the guidance of Virgil to help him maneuver through Hell to reach his goals. Dante is the one who does all the work, but Virgil helps guide and facilitate his thoughts and choices.
In therapy, I am Virgil and you are Dante. You will be doing all of the work – not me. My role is guidance and facilitation on your journey and toward your goal. You will progress as much as you put into your journey.
If you do not experience any growth or benefit from therapy, my question to you is: “What fears do you believe are preventing you from experiencing the life you want to live?” … because it is these fears that are hindering your growth in therapy.
Do you have any children?
I have two girls that are two years apart, and I’ve been married for more than 10 years. I love my family and have found that they have helped both my professional and spiritual growth in all aspects of my life. You will learn as much about my family, as I will learn about your life.
I noticed an accent when I spoke with you. Where are you from?
I was born in Brooklyn… a first-generation American. My parents and siblings, as well as my husband, were born in Jamaica. My oldest daughter and I were born in the same hospital, Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. My youngest daughter was born in Osceola Regional Hospital. My maternal family has ancestry dating back to India, and my paternal family has ancestry dating back to Jamaica and West Africa.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy resting, spending time with my family and friends, and just enjoying the beauty of life. I love being near water, so I love the beach and natural springs.
I heard you enjoy traveling. What is your favorite vacation spot?
That is a difficult question. I am Jamaican and love Jamaica, but I found Hawaii was the best vacation I enjoyed. I learned how to surf, and, for me, the hikes were a spiritual journey that I will never forget. Hawaii is a vacation spot that I recommend to anyone at least once in their lifetime.
